Submitted Aug 17, 2010 at 19:21 — NIPs members, if you are free then, please consider helping to provide music for a book release party September 11 at 1 p.m. at the Red Hen Cafe in Middlesex for Andy Leader's newly published little book of poems, "Back From The Land."  Andy and Janet will do a few songs, and, hopefully, some NIPS will be able to attend and play a few tunes in between readings from the book.  Snacks will be provided, and the whole deal shouldn't last must longer than an hour or so.  Please let me know if you can make it, and I'll suggest an informal schedule alternating reading and music.  Thanks.

Submitted Jul 27, 2010 at 09:26 — Directions to Virginia's place:

FROM the EAST:

(1) Get to Moscow Woods Rd. in East Calais which leads west off Route 14. It's about 50 yards north of the E. Calais store.

(2) Turn west onto Moscow Woods Rd. (formerly known as the Dump Road) and start watching your odometer if you're into distances. Bear left, passing the mill, the Post Office, and a little triangular garden with a road sign--all on your right. Pass the recycling station on your left and follow Moscow Woods Rd uphill to Ledge Road on the left, marked with a NIPs sign, about 1.2 miles from Rt 14.

(3) Turn left on Ledge Road. Bear right at the fork (plunging into the woods). About .6 mile from Moscow Woods Rd. you come out from the woods near a shack.

FROM the WEST:

(1) Coming through Maple Corner and/or Kent's Corners, come down the Kent Hill Road to the North Calais Road.

(2) Turn left (northward) on the North Calais Road. Pass Dugar Hill Road on the left and take the next right onto Moscow Woods Road. Cross Jack Hill Road. Take the next right turn, Ledge Road.

(3) Follow the directions on Ledge Road from step 3 above.

Submitted Jul 20, 2010 at 11:07 — Hey, NIPs! Because of the increase in BOGUS EMAIL, and the less-than-airtight security of our site, I'm going to make the NIPs list temporarily disappear from the public page. We'll probably need to institute more rigorous measures in a number of ways, but we can talk about that at the next couple of meetings.

GREENSBORO DANCES should be starting this Sunday--stand by for definitive word.

ALSO: Remember Chuck and Nancy Milch? They were faithful NIPs back in the days when we were doing the Lyndon Grange Hall dance. Nancy could tell you a pretty interesting story about one of those dances. They've been living down in Massachusetts for a while but have always stayed in touch and come to a fair number of hayfield junkets. Come greet them Wednesday!

Submitted Feb 25, 2010 at 20:55  On 3/24, I was in Norwich because my school was on winter break. But planning to work at school and go to music, I had actually started driving northward on I-89 with snow falling very heavily. Seeing many vehicles off the road was fairly ominous. But then I came up behind a VERY long line of cars and trucks at a standstill with other vehicles coming up and halting behind me. There was no telling whether some semi had jackknifed or what, so it was a real possibility that people could be trapped there indefinitely. Fortunately, I was able to drive along the shoulder to one of those crossovers you're not supposed to use and escape to the southbound lanes. Still, I sorely missed my weekly Wednesday music fix! ~Chip
